Founded 1883 as Auckland University College, acquired present title and became Constituent Institution of University of New Zealand 1957. Became autonomous 1961. Incorporated the former Auckland College of Education 2004.

Requirements
- Admission details: International students who have attained University Entrance (the minimum standard for admission to New Zealand universities) must fulfil additional requirements for certain Auckland degree programmes with higher entry standards. Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. If English is not the first language students will be required to submit proof of English language proficiency.
