Founded 1912 as the Polytechnic Institute of Porto Rico (SIC) by the Reverend Dr John Will Harris. The Institution was fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools 1944 and has maintained his accreditation since. Its name later changed to Inter American University of Puerto Rico 1956 and became the first Higher Education Institution in Puerto Rico to make education available to students in other geographic areas of the island through regional colleges.
