Founded 1898 as Craftwork School. Renamed Wuhan Institute of Iron and Steel 1958. Wuhan Institute of Iron and Steel, Wuhan Junior College of Construction and Wuhan Junior Medical College of Metallurgical Industry, were then incorporated into Wuhan University of Metallurgic Science and Technology 1995. Acquired present title 1999.
