University of Strasbourg
Founded 1970 under the 1968 law reforming higher education as one of three Universities replacing the former Université de Strasbourg, founded 1537 as School. Became Academy 1566 and University 1621, suppressed by the Revolution, replaced by German university 1872-1918, evacuated to Clermont-Ferrand 1939-1945. A state institution enjoying academic and financial autonomy, operating under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Education and financed by the State. Acquired present status 2009 following the merge of the Université Louis Pasteur, Marc Bloch and Robert Schuman.
