Lille 1 University
Founded 1970 under the 1968 law reforming higher education as one of three Universities replacing the former Université de Lille - founded 1560 at Douai and authorized by Papal Bull. The University was suppressed by the Revolution and replaced by Faculties in Lille and Douai, the latter being subsequently transferred to Lille in 1887. Reconstituted as University 1896. A State institution enjoying academic and financial autonomy, operating under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and financed by the State.
