Founded 1472 at Ingolstadt by Duke Ludwig, the Wealthy, transferred to Landshut 1800 by Elector Max IV Joseph, later King Maximilian I, and to Munich 1826 by King Ludwig I. An autonomous institution financially supported by the State of Bavaria, and under the jurisdiction of its Ministry for Education, Science and the Arts.
