Università di Tartu (TÜ)

Founded 1802 as Universitas Dorpantensis by Alexander I, with German as the language of instruction but tracing its origins to the Academy founded by Gustav II Adolphus of Sweden in 1632. German was replaced by Russian in 1893, when the University was renamed Universitas Iurievensis. Acquired present title 1919. Has incorporated the Institute of Law, Tallinn, and Tartu Teacher Training College.
